About

  • We are a 501c3 corporation with the humanitarian goals of improving health, infrastructure, economics and care of orphans and the poor in the town of Limon, Honduras.
  • Limon is a Garifuna (descendants of African slaves) community on the caribbean coast of Honduras - the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.
  • Limon has a very high rate of HIV - best estimates indicate 10-15% adult infectivity rate - and gets little attention from traditional and government resources in preventing and treating this problem.
  • As a result of little access to health care the town and area of Limon has a high death rate from treatable diseases such as malaria and parasites, as well as high morbidity from other diseases.
  • Because of the many health care issues and the high death rate from preventable and treatable diseases, there is a large and growing population of orphans which is overwhelming the community resources.  These orphans frequently become victims of exploitation.
  • Infrastructure problems include lack of access to clean water, lack of local income sources, particularly for women, lack of educational services, lack of health care education and care.
  • The human tragedy as the result of the HIV epidemic alone is staggering.  We see whole families, mother/father/children all dying of AIDS - people dying in their huts with no food, water, sanitation or care.  The suffering is appalling.
  • Infections with malaria and parasites takes a huge toll.
  • Dental care is practically non-existant and most children have serious dental disease.
  • We are currently focusing on providing improved health care, HIV education and prevention, improvement of community infrastructure such as schools and sources of clean water, and building a larger orphanage to house the many street children.
  • Donations and volunteers are actively sought.
